Winter Storm Brings Feet of Snow

What was a typical Monday morning for most, turned out to be one of the best mornings of the year for snow enthusiasts.

Parts of the Sierra were blanketed with nearly 10 feet of snow over the weekend and ski resorts and their customers love it.

"Absolutely perfect," said Sam Davis of Roseville.

Davis and others spent the day at Boreal where the resort saw six feet of snow, although it continued to make more Sunday evening.

Boreal plans to make snow and save some for its summer classes in June and July.

But, like others ski destinations, Boreal is nowhere near its total for this time last year.

To date, it is just under 300 inches for the year as compared to 800 by late March in 2011.

So how much longer and resorts expect to stay open now that Easter is right around the corner?

Future storms could answer that, but Sam Rogers, a worker at Donner Truckee Lodge, believes it will stay on par with previous years.

"It will slow down after Easter, when the weather gets nice in the valley people stop coming up here, there are just too many other things to do,” said Rodgers.
