The Civil Air Patrol, the California Highway Patrol and the Amador County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a small plane that disappeared on a flight between Minden, Nevada and Tracy, California Wednesday afternoon.
The flight should have only taken 45 minutes. Radar shows the plane flew over the Sierras toward Tahoe before turning south, possibly to avoid thunderstorms. Brown was last tracked east of Sacramento, where the mountains are 6,000 to 7,000 feet.
Brown's family says he’s the owner of the plane and an experienced pilot, having flown that route 200-300 times.
The Civil Air Patrol is using a plane for the search, and the Sheriff’s Office is using a helicopter to search gullies and crevices.
There haven’t been any emergency radio transmissions from the pilot, and nobody’s heard anything from the emergency locator beacon.
