Sacramento Ranks #6 in Affordable & Fun Cities

Sacramento ranks high in the nation for unemployment, and was hit hard by the housing collapse a few years ago, but apparently according to a business magazine, California’s capital city offers good times at low prices.

Business Week took information from a Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate and Onboard Informatics report and compiled a list of America’s fun and affordable places to live.

The report looked at more than 6,100 zip codes where the median home price was within 20% of the state’s median home price, from that list they found the 25 areas with the most bars and restaurants.

Sacramento ranks #6; in the main zipcode of 95814, there are 188 bars and restaurants, and the median home price is $228,500.

The top most fun, most affordable city on their list is Ocean City, Maryland. Ocean City is known to Sacramento residents as being 3,000+ miles away at the end of Interstate 80, according to the road sign in West Sacramento. The oceanfront city is also known for pubs and nightclubs on their boardwalk. Their average home price is $243,600, and they have 277 bars and restaurants.

Ocean City is followed by Ala Moana-Kakaako, a city on the island of Honolulu, Hawaii. Number three and four on the list are in Arizona; the average home price in Tempe is just $119,900, and in Scottsdale it’s $140,000. Number 5 is Greenville, South Carolina, who beat Sacramento by having 8 more bars and a considerably lower average home price at $134,875.
