Store Will Not Break Tradition For Black Friday

With reports showing meager spikes in employment and retail sales across the nation, many retailers are opening their doors a little earlier than usual on Black Friday; hoping to bolster sales.

But one retailer in the area is opening later, despite the economy. RC Willey in Rocklin will have its trail of sales for shoppers, whether a bed, furniture, or the hottest items in electronics. But you won’t have to get up as early to seal the deal. While other retailers are planning to open as early as Thanksgiving night, RC Willey is not breaking from tradition, despite the economy. Doors will open at 8 a.m. Friday morning.

Shopper, Anthony Look, of Rancho Cordova likes the idea, “There’s no need in getting there at midnight Thanksgiving night to go do your Christmas shopping, it’s crazy,” he said.

Store Manager in Electronics, Daniel Walker, said not all customers are thrilled about the idea, “It’s been a real mixed bag honestly, with customers saying hey we’d rather you not open and have you worried about coming in on Thanksgiving Day. And then, we’ve had customers who have said, hey we’d love it if you’d open up earlier,” said Walker.

Look hates Black Friday, “I got friends that do it religiously, they all get together and do their Black Friday thing, but I’m-no, I just can’t do it,” he said.

Besides some of the shoppers, employee, Angel Castelar, appreciates the late start, “It’s nice to be able to get rested up for the big day, it’s a really long day for us, so it’s nice to get those extra hours of sleep so we can tackle the big crowds on that day,” said Castelar.
