Sacramento Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof rushed to refute a report on that they might consider cutting ties with Geoff Petrie after this season.

Petrie's official title is President of Basketball Operations. Most Kings fans consider him the general manager, as he is in charge of the basketball team and all that entails. writer Marc Stein, in a column about NBA coaches who may in danger of lose their jobs, wrote that sources have indicated to him that the the Maloofs may consider letting Petrie go after this season.

A Maloof spokesman told me Joe and Gavin were very upset about the report and quickly issued the following statement:
"There is absolutely no truth that we are considering anyone else for our General Manager position. We consider Geoff Petrie to be the best in the business and look forward to continuing our resurgence with him at the helm.”
Stein's column also indicated Kings head coach Paul Westphal's job could be on the line as well. There was no statement from the Maloofs regarding Westphal.
