A man went back into his burning Fair Oaks home to rescue his two dogs Friday morning.
The fire started in the garage of the home on Niblick Way, where the homeowner was restoring a vintage Trans-Am for a client.
"That's going to be a difficult phone call for him to make this morning," remarked Battalion Chief Patrick Ellis.
People who called 911 told dispatchers the homeowner had gone back into the burning home to rescue his dogs. When Sacramento Metro District firefighters arrived, the homeowner was safely out of the house and across the street.
The dogs are ok.
Firefighters do not recommend going back into a burning building for any reason.
Flames burned most of the house. It is unlivable at this time.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. An arson investigator is on scene.
