Late-summer rain has swollen area rivers, muddying up the fishing. The rain has encouraged silvers to head up into streams, but the darkened waters have made it difficult to catch fish, according to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
Silver fishing on Ship Creek is listed as fair to good with few anglers taking advantage of silvers coming in with the rains. Bird Creek is listed as fair for silvers with a lot of pinks and chum in the creek as well.
Campbell Creek is slow for silvers but expected to improve with recent rains driving silvers out of the lake into the creek. Stream conditions are listed as tough.
Lake fishing should be good, and Fish and Game reports stocking Jewel, Sand, Delong and Campbell Point lakes with broodstock rainbow last week.
Kenai Peninsula -
Fishing for silvers along the upper Kenai at the confluence of the Russian and Kenai rivers is starting to improve, but Fish and Game still lists it as slow.
Anglers are reporting decent catches of silver on the lower sections of the Ninilchik, Deep Creek and Anchor River with roe, plug-cut herring, 3-5 size spinners and weighted flies, according to Fish and Game.
Lake fishing on the Kenai Peninsula is listed as hot currently.
Halibut fishing is not great in Kachemak Bay but better if you travel to the central or souther part of Cook Inlet, according to Fish and Game. Salt-water silver fishing is listed as fair to good in Cook Inlet and Kachemak Bay.
Matanuska/Susitna Valley -
Effective Saturday, a Fish and Game emergency order will ban silver salmon fishing in much of its Knik Arm management area, except Fish Creek and the Eklutna Tailrace.
Fish and Game lists the Eklutna Tailrace as fair in early morning, and silver fishing on the Deshka River has slowed some. West-side hot spots like the Chuit, Kustatan and Theodore Rivers are reportedly improving as river levels drop.
Clear Creek is listing some limits on coho and numerous chum salmon.
Trout fishing along Parks Highway streams is listed as good. Please see the Alaska Department of Fish and Game for regulations concerning catch and release.
Lake fishing is excellent, according to Fish and Game.
Prince William Sound -
Halibut is listed as decent, with mid-sized fish being caught around Knight Island, and lingcod fishing is listed as hit-and-miss, according to Fish and Game.
Silvers seem to be plentiful just outside of Passage Canal, accoding to Whittier anglers.
Shrimping reports are good for PWS currently.
