For about an hour portions of the Aleutian Chain was under tsunami warning. The sparsely populated region included coastal areas of Alaska from Unimak Pass to Amchitka Pass.
The tsunami warning was canceled after the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center says no wave was observed in the area.
There were no reports of any damage or injuries.
The center reported a second temblor of magnitude 5.1 just before 10:30 a.m., with an epicenter 35 miles southeast of Amutka Pass. No tsunami was expected from the quake.
In June, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 in the same area also prompted a tsunami warning in the Aleutians.
