SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KTLA) -- An investigation is underway after a recent UCLA graduate was struck and killed by a taxi in Santa Monica.
Melissa Del-Aguila, 24, was seen running across the 2400 block of Wilshire Boulevard at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday when she was struck by a taxi. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Del-Aguila was last seen celebrating her recent graduation with friends at Q's Billiards located at 11835 Wilshire Boulevard in West Los Angeles around 1 a.m. that night.
Police say she had no mode of transportation.
They're trying to figure out how she made her way to Santa Monica, some 1.3 miles away.
Del-Aguila was wearing 5-inch heels at the time, leading Santa Monica police to believe that someone drove her to that location.
Police also say they're trying to determine if something caused the woman to flee the car, or if she was simply trying to hail a cab when she was struck.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact Detective Chris Dawson at (310)458-8954 or Sergeant Jeff Wiles at (310)458-8950 or the Santa Monica Police Department (24 hours) at (310)458-8495.
