ONTARIO, Calif. (KTLA) -- Authorities say a 19-year-old woman could face felony animal cruelty charges after she allegedly went shopping while her dog died inside a hot car in San Bernardino County.
Security guards at Ontario Mills Mall spotted the 1-year-old golden retriever inside a locked BMW in the parking lot just before 7 p.m. Monday.
It's believed the dog was inside the car for about three hours.
The puppy was taken to an emergency pet clinic where it was euthanized after veterinarian officials found it had suffered brain damage and heart and lung problems.
Police Officer Dereck Anthony tells the Riverside Press-Enterprise that Chang Qui, of Beijing, China, was arrested and booked on suspicion of animal cruelty.
