Jim holds the American Meteorological Society's Seal of Approval for accredited television weather information. In addition to his weekend weather duties, Jim also forecasts the weather and reports on traffic for the 1pm newscast, several times a week.
Before KTLA, Jim was the Chief Meteorologist at Q-13 Fox in Seattle and at KCBS in Los Angeles. In 2001, while Jim was on the evening news, KCBS noted ratings gains and went on to win a Golden Mic and Emmy.
Jim also did weather for WNYW Fox 5 in New York City. The 10pm newscast won an Emmy for the first time in a decade while Jim was there.
Jim's broadcasting career began while still attending the University of Missouri in Columbia. After being a cheerleader for three full years and staying on the Dean's list, he did an internship at KOMU-TV where they asked him to become the weekend weather caster. He quickly secured the weekday-evening position until he graduated a year later.
Jim was honored to be offered an internship to work with the very famous WGN Meteorologist, Tom Skilling in Chicago, yet decided to take his first offer in South Texas where he could learn to report on tropical weather while earning an income.
In addition to doing weather, Jim enjoys acting. Jim is SAG Eligible with 5 film roles behind him, including Leap of Faith, Blink, With Honors, Duplex & his latest speaking role in a Short Film called Photo Booth that was shot in 2010. Most recently, Jim made appearances in BBC's "Torchwood" and "Criminal Minds".
You will often find Jim doing charity work for causes dear to his heart including MS, to which he lost his mother. He also enjoys many outdoor activities, music, movies and real estate.
