DETROIT (KTLA) -- Move over silver, white is now the world's most popular color for carmakers, according to a new survey by PPG Industries.
The paint maker found that 21 percent of 2011 model-year vehicles were white, while black and silver tied for second at 20 percent.
Black was first in Europe followed by white and silver. In Asia, silver ranked first followed by white and black.
"Our consumer research has clearly shown that color is critically important to car buyers," Jane E. Harrington, PPG manager, said in a news release. "It's why we do what we do. But more importantly, it's why PPG puts so much effort into researching, evaluating and understanding trends as they relate to color."
Silver was named most popular for about a decade, according to reports.
PPG also ranked other colors. For the full report, visit: http://www.ppg.com/en/newsroom/news/Pages/20111005A.aspx
