Missing Aliso Viejo Woman ID'd; Died of Natural Causes
Margo Walters, 76 (O.C. Sheriff's Dept.)
The cause of death was a heart attack, according to the coroner.
The elderly woman apparently died after walking in the dark in rough terrain for two miles in the middle of the night wearing her slippers, said Jim Amormino, spokesman for the Orange County Sheriffs Department.
A bicyclist passing through the area of Pacific Park Drive and Woodfield Drive noticed a foul odor and called 911.
Orange County Sheriff's deputies with cadaver dogs later discovered the woman's body in bushes.
Walters vanished July 17 following an argument with her husband.
Husband Egon Walters said the couple argued before going to bed, then around 3 a.m. he awoke to find she was gone. He reported her missing later that day.
He has made several pleas for help in finding his wife, telling reporters the fight they had was minor and that he would never harm her.
Officials said Margo left without her cell phone, house keys or identification, and was still wearing her pajamas.
After her disappearance, the Sheriff's Department launched an intensive operation, using search and rescue teams, bloodhounds, cadaver dogs and helicopters.
