LAKE FOREST (KTLA) -- A funeral service was held Saturday morning for a hockey coach who was stabbed to death June 11 in a fight at a Lake Forest restaurant.
The service was held at Saddleback Church to memorialize Elvis Kechechian, 26, of Mission Viejo, who was an ice hockey at Santa Margarita High School.
Hossain Saidoian, 32, of Mission Viejo, was also wounded in the stabbing. He died Thursday at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, where he was being treated for his wounds.
The fight started as a verbal dispute inside the Albatross located at 23591 Rockfield Blvd when a confrontation took place between a group of men and a group of women, said Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino.
The argument became physical when three people moved outside at about 2 a.m. and someone pulled a knife.
According to witnesses, the suspect -- who police say is Justin Tombleson, 28, of Lake Forest -- arrived after the argument had been taken outside.
Witnesses said they saw two stabbing victims -- later identified as Kechechian and Saidoian -- both bleeding and "in bad shape."
Both men died from their wounds.
A third man suffered moderate cuts in the fight but was not stabbed, said Jim Amormino, spokesman for the the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
Kechechian had been coaching ice hockey at Santa Margarita Catholic High School since 2010, "working out with the players three times a week in the school's weight and fitness center," school officials said in a statement Saturday night.
"Compassionate, dedicated, sweet and soft-spoken, Elvis was proud to be part of Santa Margarita's ice hockey program and enjoyed celebrating the successes of the players and team," the statement said.
"He was super dedicated," said Assistant Ice Hockey Coach Mitch O'Brien. "We are at a loss."
Tombleson was taken into custody Wednesday and was later charged with the murder of Kechechian.
He is in custody at the Orange County Jail. Amormino told the Los Angeles Times he expects more charges to be filed as a result of Saidoian's death. He faces 60 years to life in prison if convicted of murdering Kechechian. He could face more if convicted of murdering Saidoian.
Plans for a funeral for Saidoian have not yet been made public.
