BALDWIN PARK, Calif. (KTLA) -- Police have identified a young woman who was struck and killed by a drunk driver while walking to church.

24-year old Esmeralda Ramirez was walking with her boyfriend around 2:30 p.m. Sunday when she was hit near Stewart Avenue and Baldwin Park Boulevard.

Police say the 27-year-old driver, who has been identified as Raphael Espinosa Moreno, lost control of his 2005 Jeep Laredo and hit the woman.

The 2005 Jeep Laredo then slammed into a bus bench and a structure.

The suspect tried to run away, but officers caught up to him a block away.

A passenger in the suspect's vehicle was injured and was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene, said Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the coroner's office.

Moreno's blood-alcohol level was later determined to have been two times the legal limit. He is now facing possible vehicular manslaughter charges, police said.
