Authorities: Suspect Shot by Deputies After Hawthorne Traffic Stop Had Been Armed
HAWTHORNE (KTLA) -- A suspect shot and killed by Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies Thursday evening was armed with a handgun, authorities said Friday.

At least one deputy shot the suspect, reportedly a known gang member and parolee, after feeling a weapon on the suspects waistband amid a physical struggle during a traffic stop at 126th Street and Prairie Avenue around 6:50pm Thursday.

The deputies had been patrolling the area near the 12800 block of South Prairie Avenue when they spotted the suspect. According to the deputies, the suspect got into a car and refused to come out when they tried to address him.

The suspect then jumped out of the car and began fighting the deputies, according to reports. At least one deputy then opened fire on the suspect, who died at the scene.

Neither deputy involved sustained any injuries.
