LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- Casey Anthony has been flying under the radar, so-to-speak, since her release from a Florida prison and acquittal in the murder of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. But, there are reports that Anthony may be in California -- possibly Los Angeles.

Anthony, 25, was released from jail Sunday, 12 days after a jury acquitted her on murder and child neglect charges related to the 2008 death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee.

She was given credit for time served on a four-year sentence for lying to police.

After her release, Anthony was believed to have boarded a private jet owned by California attorney Todd Macaluso, who at one point had been a member of Casey's defense team and had given her $70,000, NBC News reported.

In an interview with KOVR-TV, Bounty Hunter Leonard Padilla said he plans to sue Casey Anthony for expenses incurred during the 2008 search for her daughter. He says Anthony and her attorney, Jose Baez, misled him by allowing him to travel to Florida to join the search when they apparently knew the girl's whereabouts the entire time.

Padilla says he spent $50,000 to bond out Anthony when she was initially jailed and even offered a $25,000 reward for the girl's return.

He said he talked to Anthony on many occasions during that time and that she never said she knew where Caylee was.

"She told me the babysitter stole the baby," Padilla said. "They were both feeding us that line. And now we know it was never true. We lost a lot of money."

Padilla says it could take a few weeks to get his lawsuit together.

He also says he believes Anthony may be in Palm Springs or Los Angeles.

"I've said that she's down and around in the Palm Springs area, the Los Angeles area I believe," he told KOVR. "The airplane that she left Florida in belongs to a fellow, an attorney, that was involved in the case, and he's down in that area; he's got a couple places down in that area."

NBC's Today show reports that Anthony may be in Carlsbad, near San Diego, since Macaluso's private jet landed at John Wayne Airport in Orange County after whisking away Anthony.

Macaluso's firm has an office at the Palomar Airport in Carlsbad.

KGO-TV reports that after landing in Orange County, the plane stopped in San Carlos Sunday evening with only five men aboard, according to the pilot. KSAZ reports the plane may have also stopped in Prescott, Arizona.

Social media sites have been tracking Anthony's whereabouts, and even threatening death, ever since her controversial release and acquittal.

The "I hate Casey Anthony" Facebook page has more than 45,000 fans; the "F--- Casey Anthony" page has more than 775,000. There are more dedicated to keeping her from seeking refuge in Puerto Rico, Europe, Oregon, Texas and Virginia, among other locales.

So far, Anthony's lawyers have been her most vocal defenders, expressing fear for her safety in light of all the public outrage.
