ABINGTON, Pa. (KTLA) -- A family outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has welcomed six new bundles of joy.

Abington Memorial Hospital announced the birth of sextuplets on Wednesday -- a first for the hospital.

The three boys and three girls were born premature earlier in the day. It was not known how premature the babies were when they were delivered.

The babies were being cared for in the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit.

The family's identity was not immediately released.

There were no reports of complications.

Hospital officials say further information will be provided at the family's discretion.

Sextuplets are usually born about 11 weeks premature and they typically weigh more than 2 pounds each.
