Hardwick signs with Chargers for 3-year deal

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Chargers agreed to a three-year deal with center Nick Hardwick, but released tackle Marcus McNeill Tuesday.

The deal comes after 30-year-old Hardwick completed his eighth NFL season with the Chargers.

Hardwick played in at least 12 games in all but one season since being drafted as a third-round pick in 2004. The veteran has started each of the 103 games he has appeared in, including all 16 the past two seasons.

Free agent McNeill, who has started 82 games for the Chargers, was released.  He had been with the team since 2006.

Other players released by the San Diego team were cornerback Dante Hughes, who had a career-high 42 tackles last season, and waived  linebackers Everette Brown and Nate Triplett and wide receiver Bryan Walters.
