Okay gang chill out on the potassium iodide...lots of reasons to avoid it.

Try this instead and add iodine to your diet naturally. I just waded out in the surf and grabbed some fresh kelp torn loose by the big swell this week. Avoid the stuff already on the beach.

Clip 1 lb approx of the freshest leaves into 2-3" strips or squares and rinse well in a colander. Put a pot of water on to boil. When its boiling call the kids because the next part is semi cool. Rent some kids if you don't have your own. Toss the kelp into the boiling water. The brown kelp instantly turns bright green.

Let the water and kelp boil for 10 minutes, and then use tongs to remove seaweed (save water for plants, its good stuff)

Next I drop the kelp into the blender, along with a couple tablespoons of olive oil and one tablespoon sesame seed oil (approx on both) blend to a green mush and taste. If you like it saltier, go for it.

Next, spread it into a 1/4" thick sheet on foil. Slide the foil onto the broiler pan and throw it in the oven. I'm baking it at 250 degrees, but so far I'm not sure if thats the right temp or not.

It tastes just like the seaweed served at local sushi restaurants. Its loaded with iodine and vitamins and minerals. BTW...harvest in clean wate,r far from sewage and storm outfalls.
