Teens critically injured in Poway crash

POWAY, Calif. - Two critically injured teenage brothers were among several other victims involved in a collision of three vehicles on a Poway road Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

A 17-year-old boy was driving a green Ford Escort westbound around 2:30 p.m. on Twin Peaks Road near Woodcreek Road with three teen passengers when he swerved over the center line into on-coming traffic, San Diego Sheriffs Cpl. Todd Murphy said. His car struck a white Toyota Prius, then slid sideways into a maroon Ford F-150 driven by a woman and her 12-year-old sister.

The teen driver and his 15-year-old brother suffered major head trauma and were transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital by a medical helicopter, Murphy said.

The two other passengers in the Ford Escort and the drivers and passengers of the involved vehicles had minor injuries and were treated at local hospitals.

Officials will continue to investigate the collision.
