A Portland Family's Guide To Halloween

Lots of Portlanders (and Vancouverites!) will likely be carving pumpkins in the next week - and you can pick up a gourd to carve at one of several local pumpkin picking spots around town, including the Roloff Family Farm in Hillsboro, the Plumper Pumpkin Patch (no scary decorations there), and several on Sauvie Island, including the famous Pumpkin Patch.

If it's decor you desire, we have a list of recession-friendly ideas. Or if you want to go all out...for those fans of Nightmare Before Christmas and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, there is an amazing neighborhood light show happening right here that combines, you could say, the best of both worlds.

Still don't have a costume? Or maybe you're on a budget this year and can't afford to shell out for costumes at your local Halloween Warehouse - either way - this blog has some absolutely adorable DIY ideas for family friendly costumes. Our favorites - Optimus Prime (hello cardboard & paint) and the family of Incredibles.

Looking for a fun way to occupy the kids with seasonal crafts? Kaboose has a ton of ideas, from pumpkins to pottery, and the best part is, they're all free. Martha Stewart always has fantastically creative carving ideas.

Wishing you a happy & safe Halloween - from everyone at NW32!
