Women in the African nation of Togo are the latest to dangle sex as a carrot for change.
Isabelle Ameganvi leads the women’s wing of a group opposed to Togo’s president. She thinks the best way to get the president to resign, and to stop the violence that has hit the country in recent days is for all Togo women to stop having sex with their husbands or partners for the next week.
Yeah, as if men really can’t hold out longer than a few days.
Okay, we`ll admit it’s worked in the past.
Like about ten years ago in war-ravaged Liberia.
And in 2009 in Kenya, where women closed up shop to end bickering among government officials.
And last year, on the Philippines island of Mindanao where women held out until village men stopped fighting.
Of course, the most famous example of no-piece for peace is the Greek play Lysistrata, where women went on a sex strike to end the war between Athens and Sparta.
And the way things are going in Greece these days, this may not be such a bad idea.
