Mother's day only comes once a year, and for Karen Sorensen, thismother's daywill be really special.
Karen has alopecia universalis and lost her hair when she was only 7-years-old.
Alopecia universalis is a rare medical condition that causes total hair loss throughout the body. Because there's no cure for the disease, women who suffer from it spend their lives in wigs and beauty salons - doing anything they can to maintain a normal appearance.
So, Karen has been coming to Tom Maglairo's Salon on the west loop for years, having custom hair pieces made so she can live a normal life and feel confident when she goes out in public. So this year, the salon is doing something for her: donating a specially made hair system designed just for her.
It's a solution that would normally cost more than seventeen-hundred-bucks and will last for a year. For Karen it's a difference few of us could truly understand.
So happy Mother's Day to a very special woman who is just as beautiful without it.
