NEWPORT, OREGON—Hate going to the dentist?
Maybe this is why...
Oregonian Karen Butler went to have oral surgery at her dentist's office
When she woke up she had more than a new set of pearly-whites!
"I went to sleep and when I woke up I had this accent. It was just night and day." Said Butler.
Butler has foreign accent syndrome a rare disorder that causes a sudden change to speech patterns usually caused by damage to the brain, like a stroke.
Butler chalked up her "funny speech" to the post-surgery swelling, but a year and a half later, Butler's dentures and her accent are still in tact.
Going to the dentist isn't usually a pleasant experience, but to Karen Butler leaving with the luck of the Irish wasn't all bad!
