UTMB's John Sealy Hospital is still undergoing repair from Hurricane Ike, but on Thursday, they opened their doors for a quick tour. Texas lawmakers surveyed the damage of at least three feet of flooding. They noticed plastic tubing throughout the building is airing out humidity, floors and walls have water damage, and parts of the hospital lacks power.
"Obviously the damage is worse than you visualize," said Speaker of Texas House of Representatives, Tom Craddick.
The hospital is asking for 600 million dollars to make their hospital hurricane proof. They estimate they'll reopen in a month or two.
