UPDATE: The skeletal remains that were located near Big Creek during the past two searches have been positively identified through dental records as belonging to Marie Hanson. Hanson had been reported missing from the Rainbow Family Gathering located in the Skookum Meadows area of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in early July.
The investigation is ongoing as to the cause and manner of her death. Hanson’s family has been notified of the current status of this case.
“We are thankful that we can help Marie’s family and friends work towards some closure on her disappearance.” said Undersheriff Dave Cox.“
The Skamania County Sheriff's Office says after several extensive searches of the area where Marie Hanson was last seen during the Rainbow Gathering in early July of this year, searchers located skeletal remains and jewelry yesterday afternoon. Search efforts and scene processing is continuing today to locate any additional evidentiary items.
“We will continue with this investigation to attempt to positively identify any remains that we locate throughout this process, stated Undersheriff Dave Cox. “We are hopeful but not jumping to any conclusions at this point. Marie’s family have been notified of this development and are requesting that we all respect their privacy during this time.”
Word from the family’s webpage stated on Monday says, "Late this afternoon the Skamania County Sheriff informed Marie's family that human remains and jewelry were found at the search site. Positive identification has not been made, however the remains were located near Marie's camp, and there are no other missing persons reported. Sheriff officers will remain at the site throughout the investigation. Marie's family requests that you allow them their privacy for a couple of days. When positive identification is made, we will post the news. Thank you friends for your loving support."

UPDATE 8/31/11: Detectives have released a sketch of a person of interest in the case of Marie C. Hanson, the woman reported missing from the Rainbow Gathering held at Skookum Meadows on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Skamania County.
Hanson, 54, was last seen on the evening of July 6th leaving the area with the person of interest by a witness that has come forward. He is described by the witness as a white male adult, late 40’s or 50’s, approximately 5’08”, and a thin build. He wore many silver necklaces with medallions, and had rings on his fingers, wore a dark colored Duster type jacket and carried a cane.

---ORIGINAL CASE DETAILS 8/9/11---
Skamania County Sheriff’s Office is currently seeking assistance locating a woman from South Lake Tahoe, CA missing from the Rainbow Festival. The female subject Marie C. Hanson, a 54 year old female, was last seen on July 10th, 2011 at the Gifford Pinchot National Forest attending the Rainbow Gathering. It has been found that the persons traveling with her lost track of her at the festival, left without her and her family has been unable to reach her. Deputies and Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office as well as United States Forest Service Law Enforcement Officers have been in the area for several days contacting attendees, passing out flyers with her picture, and taking statements.
After several days speaking with Rainbow Gathering attendees, witnesses have stated they saw her possibly hitchhiking out of the area. She was witnessed leaving with an unknown older adult white male, gray hair, 6’01, thin build and goes by the name of “Owl”. The unknown male subject is thought to be out of Key West, FL area.
