The NHL salary cap will increase to $75 million next season.
The league and NHL Players' Association announced the cap and the salary floor of $55.4 million in a joint statement Sunday. The figures are set by the league's hockey-related revenue.
That would be an increase of $2 million over last season's $73 million cap.
That extra space would benefit the Blackhawks next season in that it may bring them just under the cap if they move the contract of Marcus Kruger and his approximate cap hit of $3.1 million. It is possible Kruger will be headed to the Vegas Golden Knights as part of a deal in the upcoming expansion draft.
