Lehigh Valley jobless rate dips to 5.4 percent

The region's unemployment rate declined in June to 5.4 percent, boosted by seasonal increases in such job categories as hospitality and transportation. The rate is two-tenths of a percentage point below May's rate of 5.6 percent and the same as the beginning of the year, according to data supplied by the state Department of Labor and Industry. The four-county area that makes up the Lehigh Valley metropolitan statistical area remained in the middle of the pack among other regions.
