Tire tread separation is being blamed for the single rollover traffic crash that occurred today on Orchard Road south of Heber Road, a California Highway Patrol official said.
Firefighters at the scene of the 9:31 a.m. crash used the Jaws of Life device to shear off the roof of a single cab Ford pickup truck where a 62-year-old woman was trapped inside, said Highway Patrol Officer Miguel Sanchez.
The woman whose name was not released pending notification of her son was heading north on Orchard Road when the tread of right rear tire separated, Sanchez said.
The tire tread separation caused the motorist to lose control of her truck and roll across the center median at least once before landing on the shoulder of the southbound side of the road, Sanchez said. The woman's truck was on its side when firefighters with Imperial County Fire Station No. 2 and the Holtville Fire Department arrived on scene
Sanchez said the woman was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center for lacerations and a possible broken middle finger on her left hand.
