Robert Tovar, a 56-year-old Yuma resident, was flown to the University of California, San Diego Medical Center via REACH air ambulance with a major head injury following a roll-over traffic accident earlier this morning, according to a California Highway Patrol press release.
Tovar was traveling eastbound on Interstate 8 in a 2002 Peterbilt tractor with a trailer at approximately 55 miles per hour when the vehicle began to drift off the roadway and onto the right shoulder of the road, according to the press release.
Tovar over-corrected his steering and subsequently rolled over in the middle of the eastbound traffic lanes.
The eastbound lanes were closed for 3 hours and traffic was diverted off SR-115. This collision is still under investigation.
