Connecticut Athletes Part Of Historic Maccabi Games In Germany

They were stepping into places where the thought of doing so in years past was unimaginable, and to some unthinkable even today. Thousands of Jewish athletes have gathered for the European Maccabi Games in Germany, competing at a site built by the Nazis when the 1936 Olympics were held in Berlin. The Games started last week and end Wednesday. Rebecca Lewis of West Hartford, Freddie Bancroft of Greenwich and David Katz of Westport are three of those athletes. Lewis played soccer at Hall High School, then at Ithaca College.
