Two volunteers with Hagerstown connections were honored.
Karen Walker received the Western Maryland Community and Patients Services Committee All-Star Award.
When describing the Hagerstown resident, the Foundation stated: “A social worker at Fresenius in Hagerstown, Karen Walker has shared her time with the NKF for many years serving on the Kidney Walk volunteer committee. Last year was her most successful leading the Fresenius walk team in Hagerstown to be the top dialysis center in the country.
“She always keeps her patients first and educates them on all the help the foundation can provide. She knows the benefits of NKF programs, such as Beyond Dialysis and our Patient Assistance Fund. She recently helped coordinate the Beyond Dialysis event in Washington County. Karen is always willing to help with media appearances, education and awareness. She is a very dedicated volunteer.”
Kate and Brent Hoover received the Western Maryland Kidney Walk Committee All-Star Award
Residents of Falling Waters, W.Va., Kate is a renal dietitian at Davita in Frederick, Md., and Brent is an engineer at JLG in Hagerstown.
They have been longtime volunteers for the Western Maryland Kidney Walk in Boonsboro, serving on the committee for several years and co-chairing this year. They have helped improve the walk in all areas, including logistics and were instrumental in recruiting new teams.
