A new Taco Bell restaurant could be open in the Greencastle area before the end of the year.
“I think we should be open this year. I hope before Christmas,” Tom Cook, director of development for BurgerBusters Inc., said Friday.
BurgerBusters Inc., based in Virginia Beach, Va., operates franchisee organizations for Taco Bell in North America.
“If all goes well, we could have the Taco Bell up and running by the fourth quarter of this year,” he said.
Until you get all of your permits, it’s difficult to judge when the store will open, Cook said.
The new Taco Bell will be where Arby’s restaurant is located at 10820 John Wayne Drive in Greencastle.
Cook said Arby’s would be demolished and a new Taco Bell would be constructed at the site at the intersection of Pa. 16 and John Wayne Drive.
“I think, basically, it’s an old building and doesn’t suit our needs,” Cook said when asked why it was necessary to tear down Arby’s.
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the Antrim Township supervisors granted a stormwater request from Taco Bell officials.
Township Zoning Officer Sylvia House said the request allows Taco Bell to utilize the existing stormwater controls even though they are demolishing Arby’s.
“They didn’t want to go through the requirement for redoing the stormwater when there are storm- management controls there already,” House said.
The next step in the process is to submit the land development plan, which Cook said could happen next week.
Cook said BurgerBusters Inc. operates three Taco Bells in Hagerstown, two in West Virginia and 78 others in Virginia and North Carolina.
