The Women’s Club, whose purpose is to promote the welfare and education of the women of Hagerstown and Washington County, held a benefit card party April 17.
Proceeds from this party went to Girls Inc. of Washington County, an after-school program for girls ages 6 to 18 who participate in educational programs that teaches life skills to lead a successful, healthy life.
At the club’s board meeting on June 10, a check for $1,000 was presented to Girls Inc.
Donna Smith, club president, presented the check to Maureen Grove, executive director of Girls Inc. Patrice Slodysko, co-chairwoman of the card party, was also on hand for the presentation. The other co-chairwoman was Joan Schupp.
Vacation Bible school
There’s still time to register children for vacation Bible school at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Funkstown.
The dates are Monday, July 8 through Friday, July 12.
Classes are held in the evening and dinner is served.

Benefit picnic on Friday
A benefit picnic to help Bonnie Mowen will be held Friday at Funkstown American Legion Post 211.
Mowen recently lost her home and all of her possessions in a house fire.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers player Mike Collier will be in attendance from 6 to 8 p.m. to sign autographs.
