GREENCASTLE, Pa. — Ronald Eugene Kidd Sr., 66, of Greencastle, died peacefully at home on Jan. 29, 2011, surrounded by his family.
He retired in 2003 from a lifelong career in parks and recreation. He worked in Tupelo, Miss., Richlands, Va., Charleston, W.Va., Clarksburg, W.Va., Hagerstown, Md., and Easton, Md. He was a past president of the West Virginia State Parks and Recreation Association.
He attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.
He was a 1967 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, where he was a proud member of the basketball team. He was a 1962 graduate of South Charleston High School in South Charleston, W.Va. He was a lifelong fan of the West Virginia University sports teams and was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cheryl Ann Kidd. Also surviving him are his children, Ronald Eugene Kidd Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Jacksonville, Fla.; Scott Kidd and his wife, Kimberly, of Hagerstown; Kate Smith and her husband, Joseph, of Hagerstown; and William Kidd and his significant other, Ann Dunaway, of Martinsburg, W.Va. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ronald Eugene Kidd III “Trey,” Quinton Kidd, Nicholas Kidd, Ashley Binau, Tyler Kidd, Zachary Kidd, Jacob and Jaci Smith. He is survived by sisters, Loretta (Sue) Kemp and her husband, Bernard, and Diana Dolin and her husband, Keith, of St. Albans, W.Va.; and brother, Delbert Kidd and his significant other, Becky Connely, of Scott Depot, W.Va. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Hartwell and Lucille Kidd.
Family will receive friends at Lochstampfor Funeral Home Inc. at the corner of South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro, Pa., on Friday, Feb. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held in celebration of his life on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 141 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown.
