The Rohrersville Cornet Band of Washington County will open its 277th season Sunday, May 19.
The spring concert in the band hall on Main Street in Rohrersville will begin at 3 p.m. Holly Feather will direct the band as it performs concert favorites and introduces new compositions. Sherry Kemp (flute) and Jack Emanuelson (trumpet) will be featured soloists.
The concert is free and open to all. Donations are accepted and appreciated. Light refreshments will be served.

Halfway Little League selling discount cards
Halfway Little League has discount cards available. The cards include 10 percent off at local restaurants and businesses. The cards cost $10 and are good through April 2014. To purchase a card, call 301-582-1777.
Walk/run planned at HCC on Sunday
The Miles for Mommies 5K will be Sunday at Hagerstown Community College., starting at 8 a.m.
The event is hosted by the Washington County Association of Student Councils. Proceeds benefit the Parent Child Center.
The 5K walk/run will be held on the HCC campus. Pooch packets are being sold for an additional $5 so participants can bring their pets.

Maryland’s poet laureate to appear at museum
The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts will host a poetry reading by Stanley Plumly, poet laureate of Maryland, Friday, May 17, at 7:30 p.m.
Admission is free and the museum will open at 6:30 p.m. for visitors to view the museum’s current exhibitions.
Beginning at 7:30 p.m., Plumly will recite his poetry. After his reading, a reception and book signing will be held. He will also hold a question-and-answer session.
Spaghetti dinner planned Saturday
The Joshua Forsythe Foundation for Precious Children will hold a spaghetti dinner Saturday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at The Improved Order of Red Men Tribe 84, 16129 Lappans Road in Williamsport.
The menu includes spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, Italian bread, coffee, iced tea and soda. Desserts will be available by donation.
Tickets cost $10 for adults, $5 for those ages 5 to 10 and are free for those 4 and younger.
Proceeds will go to help families with terminally ill children.

The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts will offer art classes during June. Registration is required for all classes.

Creative Drawing — Colored Pencil for ages 15 and older; Thursdays, June 6, 13, 20 and 27; 6 to 8:30 p.m.; Instructor: Mike Gouker; $70 for nonmembers; $65 for members.
Beginning and intermediate photography for ages 10 and older; Tuesdays and Wednesdays, June 11 and 12, June 18 and 19, and June 25 and 26; 1 to 3 p.m.; instructor: Monika Wertman; $75 for nonmembers; $67.50 for members.
