Lee Roy Yeager, 77, of Chambersburg, Pa., passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at his home with his family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born June 23, 1935, in Fort Loudon, Pa., he was the son of the late Frank H. and Alma M. Hornbaker Yeager.
He was also very committed to the work of his faith, where he became an ordained deacon Aug. 1, 1973, serving at Strasburg Mennonite Church and more recently at Newburg Mennonite Church. His commitment did not stop there; he and his wife went on to travel throughout the United States doing disaster relief work with Christian Aid Ministries.
In addition, Lee Roy worked for more than 40 years as a truck driver for Valley Quarries, retiring in December 1996.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet Fleagle Yeager, whom he married March 22, 1958; four children, Sheryl E. Stewart (Kevin) of Shippensburg, Pa., Jeryl L. Yeager (Lisa) of Marion, Pa., Sheila M. Burkholder (Donald) of Newport, Pa., and Dr. Joel E. Yeager (LuAnne) of Schaefferstown, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, Gerald Yeager of Harrisburg, Pa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank C. and Robert E. Yeager; and two sisters, JoAnn Sluser and Nancy Harp.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Rowe Mennonite Church, 754 Pinola Road, Shippensburg, where the Home Ministry will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Rowe Mennonite Church Cemetery.
There will be a viewing Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, from 2 to 8 p.m., where the family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., and Tuesday one hour before the service at the church.
