Laurence “Larry” Allen Higdon, 51, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013, at his home.
Born on Sept. 6, 1961, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Nancy May Parrott Higdon of Hagerstown and the late Laurence James “Larry” Higdon.
He received a mechanic’s certificate in diesel and heavy equipment in 1980 and an associate degree in trade management in 1981 from Bob Jones School of Applied Studies in Greenville, S.C. He has received an extensive list of certificates in the heavy equipment industry over the years.
He was employed as a diesel and heavy equipment mechanic at Elliott & Frantz Inc. in Jessop, Md.
Larry loved hunting and would always lend a helping hand to work on cars for others no matter how far away!
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 25 years, Rebecca Jane Detandt Higdon; daughter, Elizabeth A. Higdon and her fiance, S. Michael Phillips, of Lynchburg, Va., daughters, Ella K. Higdon and Rachael M. Higdon, both at home, and a sister, Dorothy L. Selders of Thurmont, Md.
The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, MD 21795, Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will open Tuesday after 1 p.m. for the convenience of family and friends.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park Williamsport, with Pastor Kent Ramler officiating.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Peoples Baptist Church, 6648 Carpenter Road, Frederick, MD 21703, with Pastor Kent Ramler officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the family care of the church.
