Katherine B. (Auxt) Stonesifer, 91, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at her home in Verona, Va.
Born March 6, 1920, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of George and Harriet (Pugh) Auxt.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, Dr. Craig Stonesifer DVM and wife, Dana, of Dover, Del., Donald Stonesifer Jr. and wife, Brenda, of Churchville, Va., and Wayne Stonesifer of Harbinger, N.C.; brother, George (Jay) Auxt and wife, Virginia, of Venice, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Katherine was educated in the schools of Pennsylvania and Maryland. She was a graduate of Blue Ridge Community College.
She was a former pastor's wife and member of Christ Lutheran Church in Staunton, Va., where she served in the choir, taught Sunday school, World Church Women and was a leader in the Women of the Church.
Katherine worked at Fairchild Aircraft during World War II, taught school in Augusta County schools and taught Week-day Religious Education. She also worked at Western State Hospital and Baldwin Park Retirement Community, and she volunteered at Woodrow Wilson Birthplace, Augusta County schools and the Literacy Program.
A memorial service will be Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Staunton, with the Rev. Robert D. McCarty officiating.
