James Carroll Brinkley Sr., 80, of Hagerstown, met Jesus face-to-face on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at his son’s residence in Martinsburg surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 7, 1930, in Norfolk, Va., he was the son of the late Staley and Genevieve Brinkley.
He was a member of West End Baptist Chapel and sang in the Hagerstown Choral Arts Society.
Jim was a graduate of Maury High School, the University of Richmond and Southwestern Theological Seminary. He also attended Columbia Bible College.
He is survived by one son, James C. Brinkley Jr. and wife, Katie, of Martinsburg; three daughters, Carol Zimmerman and husband, Brian, of Baltimore; LeAnne Craig and husband, Kevin, of Cumming, Ga.; and Sharon Doub and husband, Todd, of Martinsburg; eight grandchildren, Brian Jr., Mallory, Joshua, Taylor, Cameron, Skylar, Dominic, and Amelia; two brothers, Franklin and John Trotman Brinkley; and one sister, Miriam Mandrell.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Bond Brinkley; three brothers, Staley, Charles and William Brinkley; and four sisters, Genevieve Hogewood, Anne Troop, Barbara Lee Brinkley and Marion Harrell Brinkley.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Independent Bible Church in Martinsburg, with son-in-law Pastor Brian Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown.
Family will receive friends on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg, WV 25401.
