The Franklin County 912 Patriots will host a “Second Amendment Freedom Rally” on Saturday, April 6, from noon to 2 p.m. adjacent to the old courthouse in downtown Chambersburg. The event will feature numerous speakers discussing the importance of protecting the Second Amendment, according to a news release.
State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, R-Butler, will be one of the featured speakers. Metcalfe is the primary sponsor of House Bill 357, known as the Right to Bear Arms Protection Act. That legislation would nullify any new federal gun control measures in Pennsylvania, according to the news release.
Metcalfe is serving his eighth term in office and serves as the Republican majority chairman of the Pennsylvania House of Representative’s state government committee.
Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent to Presidents Obama and George W. Bush, also will be a keynote speaker at the rally. Bongino ran for the U.S. Senate in Maryland in 2012 against incumbent Sen. Ben Cardin.
Bongino is now seen on FOX News and television shows throughout Maryland, and is a guest on many radio shows across the country, the news release stated. He has most recently been seen in interviews about the cancellation of the White House tours because of the sequester.
Another featured speaker will be Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America. Pratt has served in that capacity for 30 years. Gun Owners of America is a nonprofit lobbying organization formed in 1975 to preserve and defend the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, the news release stated.
Other speakers participating in the event include state Rep. Rob Kauffman, R-Franklin/Cumberland, Jim Taylor from America’s PAC, Ted Weaver from Responsibly Armed, and J.C. Dodge from Mason-Dixon Tactical.
Franklin County 912 Patriots is a nonprofit organization established to educate residents of the county about political issues at the local, state and federal level. The club hosts guest speakers, seminars, videos, and educational courses, according to the news release.
“The Second Amendment is under attack like never before,” said Barb Moran, one of those organizing the rally. “We have to stand up and make our voices heard and protect our right to bear arms or we will lose that right and all of the others.”
If anyone would like to make a donation to the group to help defray the cost of the rally, donations can be sent to Franklin County 912 Patriots, c/o 689 Aspen Lane, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
For more information about the rally, contact Moran at 717-261-1828.
All attendees must obey all Pennsylvania gun laws, the news release stated.
