The banner honors the family’s two daughters who are both training to become military nurses.
Erica Merson is stationed at the U.S. Air Force Base in Admori, Japan, and McKenzie Fraley is stationed at Travis Air Force base in California. The daughters graduated from Musselman High School in Inwood.
The banner, displayed in the home of a member of the armed forces, is an American tradition started during World War I. The tradition was not observed during the Korean or Vietnam wars, but was revived at the start of the war on terrorism.
Anyone who has a child or spouse serving in the military and wishes to receive a Blue Star Service Banner can call Ava at 301-432-6658.
