Paramount Brethren In Christ Church on Longmeadow Road will offer its parking lot and restrooms to the patrons who will be participating in the Fourth of July Mile-Long Yard Sale on Thursday.
Donations are appreciated with all proceeds going toward Operation Christmas Child, which sends nine million shoe boxes filled with toys, clothing and personal items to underprivileged children around the world.
The church also will have its food stand with hot dogs, hamburgers and fresh fruit cups.
Student meets research doctor
Ninth-grader Quinn Wandalowski was researching for a class project.
She had chosen to write about the mapping of the human genome.
The mapping is important for all of humanity as it changes how experts research and treat medical conditions, how the country grows its food and handles anything that has a strand of genetic code.
By coincidence, Quinn realized that she was practically neighbors with the scientist who had proposed and initiated the mapping of the genome. Quinn saw Dr. Dave Smith at a high school basketball game and realized she had access to first-hand information about a significant event.
Quinn and Smith presented their respective notes at a recent Long Meadows Rotary meeting.
The subject of curing disease is very close to the heart of Rotarians as it could mean the eradication of polio and many other diseases of which Rotary aims to rid the world.
