Good morning friends. Such a busy week. Turkeys are thawing, pie recipes are ready, decorations are being moved from storage and families are preparing for a day of food and reflecting on all of the blessings for which we are indeed thankful.

The calendar is inching closer to December and all the good tidings that it brings.

Bus trip to D.C.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Funkstown is planning a bus trip to Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, Dec. 2.

The bus will leave the church parking lot at 11:30 a.m. and head to Washington to hear the U.S. Army Band perform a holiday concert.

The trip costs $20 and includes the cost of the concert ticket, the bus, and gratuity for the driver.

A stop for dinner at Cracker Barrel is planned, but not included in the ticket price.

Kendall donates hair to Locks of Love program

Kendall Whittington, 6, made the decision to donate 12 inches of her hair to the Locks of Love program on Nov. 5.

Her grandfather passed away due to lymphoma when she was 4 years old, but Kendall never forgot about how his cancer treatments caused his hair to fall out.

After looking at the Locks of Love website with her parents, she was convinced that she could help others to smile by donating her ponytail.

She lives in Funkstown and is in first grade at Emma K. Doub Elementary. She is the daughter of Scott and Catherine Whittington.

The Locks of Love program provides wigs for those who have lost their hair due to illness.

Legion to hold oratorical contest

The American Legion High School Oratorical Contest will be Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at 7 p.m. at Dixon-Troxell Post 211 in Funkstown.

The public is invited.
