  1. Dental cavities in preschoolers on the rise, story says (and often so severe anesthesia is needed)

Moms At Work - Orlando Sentinel
My daughter went to the dentist last week for her six-month checkup and left the office with a “No cavities club” sticker.  She stuck it on her shirt and went off happily to school. I thought it was cute but hardly unusual. But then I read...

  7. Are whitening toothpastes a bright idea?

It's hard to believe, but there was a time not long ago when everyone walked around (in public!) with naturally colored teeth. Today, with so many whitening gels, strips and trays out there, yellowish grins aren't as common — nor the natural look as appealing — as they used to be.

  13. OUR HEALTH: Tooth Shoot

It may be hard to believe, but the use of cameras to capture oral images dates all the way back to 1839. On January 7th of that year, Louis J. M. Daguerre, a well-known French artist and chemist, introduced the first commercially successful photographic process at the Paris Academy of Sciences. Later that same year, Alexander S. Wolcott, a manufacturer of dental instruments, designed and patented the first camera using Daguerre&rsquo;s concept. One of the many results of this &ldquo;photographic phenomena&rdquo; included the beginning of a new era of objectively reproducing and recording extraorally visual dental images. This era also led to the inception of the world&rsquo;s first dental journal, the <em>American Journal of Dental Science</em>.

  17. Beauty Tools For A Better You

According to the commerce Department - Americans spent a whopping $33.3 billion on cosmetics and other beauty products in 2010, up 6% from 2009. That's more than consumers shelled out to buy new foreign cars ($27 billion) or TVs ($25 billion). That may be a whole lotta cash, but what's worse is spending money on a product that doesn't deliver on its promise.
