Speed appears to be a factor in a minivan crash that injured nine people, five of them children, near an entrance to Lake Compounce amusement park in Bristol Sunday evening, police said.
Officers continue to investigate the crash, Lt. Richard Guerrera said Monday. The injuries turned out to be minor, he said.
One witness told the Courant he saw the van’s driver zoom past his vehicle “literally like a rocket” before the crash.
Several of the injured children were taken to hospitals in Hartford and New Britain, said Glenn Dube, a battalion chief with the Southington Fire Department. The minivan was the only vehicle involved in the crash.
