A 24-year-old New Britain woman was drunk and looking at the GPS on her cellphone when she drove her minivan into Jose Alejandro's bicycle early Sunday on Corbin Avenue, critically injuring the 15-year-old, police said.
Subsequent testing revealed that Natalie Marie Torres's blood alcohol content was .19, more than twice the legal limit of .08, a police report says.
Jose remains in critical condition at Yale New Haven Hospital, although the boy's stepfather said Monday that he is expected to survive the ordeal.
