State police on Monday identified the man killed in a fiery crash on Route 9 Sunday night as Nicholas Formica, 62.
Formica was a Hospital of Central Connecticut doctor who specialized in rheumatology.
Formica was driving a 2000 Porsche Boxter south on Route 9 in New Britain when his vehicle crossed over the center median and struck a northbound Toyota Camry, police said. Two people in the Camry were injured.
The Porsche burst into flames with Formica trapped inside, police said. The Toyota caught fire a short time later and witnesses pulled the driver and passenger out of the car, state police said.
