Demolition of the former Children’s Memorial Hospital site in Chicago’s Lincoln Park began Tuesday, the first step in a redevelopment that will add 600 residences to the neighborhood.
The project, on a 6-acre site at Halsted Street and Fullerton and Lincoln avenues, is being developed by McCaffery Interests and Hines. It will include 540 luxury apartment units in two towers, up to 60 low-rise condominium units, and about 160,000 square feet of retail and outdoor space.
The property has been empty for four years, since the hospital moved to the Streeterville neighborhood and was renamed Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
