In the United States, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer every three minutes. More than 201,870 new cases are expected this year. Types of blood cancers include Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Multiple Myeloma which affect normal functions of the blood, bone marrow, or lymph nodes. A bone marrow transplant can be the best chance of survival for many patients. While some patients find a matching donor in their families, approximately 70% rely on a stranger to step up and donate. A simple cheek swab can help save a life. The Village of Hoffman Estates will be holding a Bone Marrow Donor Drive for several weeks in September.
