Olympia Dukakis was a smash in the title role of “The Tempest” last summer at Shakespeare & Company at Lenox, Mass. in the Berkshires.
This summer the actress will star in Bertolt Brecht’s “Mother Courage and Her Children.” The Oscar winning actress (“Moonstruck”) will be directed by Tony Simotes, artistic director of the theater.
Dukakis’ brother, Apollo Dukakis, will also be featured in the production.
Specific dates will be announced next month, along with the other productions chosen for the 2013 season.
Dukakis last performed in Connecticut at Hartford Stage in Tennessee Williams’ “The Milk Train Doesn’t Stop Here Anymore” and later performed the lead role in that play off-Broadway, both productions directed by Michael Wilson.
Can I just take a moment to stand in awe of America's octogenrian actors doing great work in stage: Hal Holbrook, Angela Lansbury, Frances Sternhagen, Estelle Parsons, James Earl Jones and Ms. Dukakis, who will be 82 for this new role. Bravo. Any others?
